Hi Guys,
I've tried adjusting my carbs numberous times with no good results. Done everything possible. Today I am going to get new plugs and give it one last shot.

Joe Reeves has given me the run down on the settings. I've also picked up some feedback just looking through threads. One thing I have not done is adjust my idle with the boat in gear. Now by doing this my engine RPM will increase when I put it back in neutral to do the initial slow-speed idle. I'm hung up here as to what to do. After putting it in neutral do I drop the RPM's again? or do I adjust needles at that point? I've heard over and over to get the motor to the lowest RPM before stalling - then adjust. Also, this is a 3 cylinder and it states to start with the middle carb. Now say I have the RPMs set with motor in gear, needle valve out at 1 1/2 turns, turn in til RPMs increase and run smooth. At this point, do I lower the RPMs again and start on the bottom carb? Or do I leave the RPMs alone in between each carb low-speed setting. I've also heard to do the two bottom carbs at low speed then do the top carb at a higher RPM around 1,000.

I just want to make sure I have all my "T's crossed and I's dotted" before I get on the water. One other fact is that I have dual stage Boyson reeds I just installed. Some say this may alter the factory setting. If so, what information may be needed. One more thing I've heard the terms "lean and rich" stated over and over to get these two cycles to purr correct. By turning in the needles does this lean or richen or vice versa.

the motor is old but is in ok shape. comp. is even in all 3 holes one gage gave me 130 and one gave me 125. ethier way pretty good.one thing is i do have a top crank bearing goin.i set points last week i set each set at .010. cheked on both lobes and they read the same. so the crank is true. but i did hear the looper does have problems with the upper seal. but with the comp i have is it ok to rule out. i replaced fuel pump new fuel tank and hose. rebuilt carbs set floats. replaced all new igntion amp coil stator timer base starter rectifier clipper box so .all i need is to get her to run good . when i got it back from shop it ran good . i tried to mess with carb adj to troll. and now i just cant seem to get the carbs right. i got good top end but it falls on its face at take off and idle. im sure it is carb adj. just cant find the sweet spot .
 
is this adj with the dual stage reeds in thought or is this factory set. some say 1and one half turns out.i have tryed all and stillno luck.set rpm in gear put in nutr and adj.again when i adj rpm in gear low as possible the rpm will go up when i put back to nutr. do i adj ss needle at that rpm. and what should i do between carb ss needle adj.

Carb adjustments and balancing of the carbs have to be done in NEUTRAL and preferably at as low RPM as possible.
When engine idles smooth, perhaps at about 600 IN NEUTRAL, shift into forward, let the boat move freely and adjust the final idle RPM as stated in the manual, about 750.
When shifting back to neutral, the rpm will probably be around 900, and let it be 900!!!!!!
When shifting into forward again it will drop to 750.
How much the rpm will change between neutral and in gear will depend on load put at the engine like propeller pitch, boat size and weight etc.
 
ok thank you ive been tryin to set the rpm to low so at 900 rpm i can do my ss needle adj or what the rpm is after adj in gear. i have the rpm at 500 in nutruel and it wants to stall .no wonder. ill kick up the rpm and give it a shot. it wont hurt the ele shift lower unit. at that rpm she may clunk into gear. i have seen the old merk lower unit sound like a grinding macine. i did not want to do harm . is a slite clunk ok.
 
any body know a good mechanic, to tune and repair carb, I live in maryland, and motor was running ok, just lile that, start to miss, I notice that when disconnect spark plug 3 engine die, also I need instruction in how to adjust carbs, thanks for your help.
