I have a 1986 60 hp merc 3 cyl

I have a 1986 60 hp merc 3 cyl and I’m ready to replace the crankcase cover but the manual is very vague on which way the cork gasket goes (appears to be with sticky side toward the side of the groove) so it fits the width of the groove and doesn't stand so tall. It also doesn't exactly show where to put the anaerobic sealer. Does the sealer go only outside the cork or on the inside or both? It seems they may only want sealer on the one side of the cover. Is it possible that the manual may have a misprint (with the a = sealer b = no sealer thing)? Can anyone assist?

Don't worry too much here.

Don't worry too much here. Most newer motors do not use the cork gasket anymore.Just put a 1/16" bead of sealer around the block and close it up. The most important thing is to make sure that all old sealer is removed and that there are no burrs/ bumps or imperfections that interfere with getting a metal to metal joint.
