6 HP Rebuild

I'm putting together a '72 6HP, model 6202D. Have new rings on pistons and pistons and rods back into cylinders. There is no gasket for the 2 sides of the crank case. Should some sort of gasket sealer be used here? If so, what is used?

Thanks for helping.

No gasket whatsoever is to be used !-----------Get the factory gelseal sealer or loctite 518.---------This is critical work and the surfaces must be clean and free of bumps and bruises.----When bolted together the 2 crankcases must not leak to the outside .---must not leak from the top to the bottom crankcase either.---------The 2 halves must go metal to metal with most of a 1/16" bead of sealer squeezing out.

I knew there must be something to use between the halves. Thanks for the info, I'll make sure the surfaces are clean, they were already pretty clean but I'll make sure it's good.

Thanks again.

Another question comes to mind. Is it OK to use a product like "never-seize" on the bolts prior to assembly. Some of these were very corroded and made dis-assembly very difficult. Or should they be left untreated?

Clean the threads on the bolts and re-tap the holes.-------A torque wrench measures the " resistance to turning " of the fastener.--------If threads are not clean then you do not get the proper tension in the bolt.

My bolts and holes are all cleaned up, I was thinking more as a preventive measure. So, I take it you would not treat them because it could give a false torque value?
