Hello I have a 2002 Mercruiser 6.2 with Bravo One outdrive that will not pump water into the engine. I have replaced the impellor twice with no luck. Does this outdrive have a second water pump somewhere or could it be the engine water pump? Thanks for any help

It has 2 water pumps. One is called the Sea Pump, that's the one that at the bottom of the engine. The you have the engine water pump, which is in the center of the engine.

saying that means you know where the raw water pump is.lower left of the engine. There is no impeller in a Bravo drive but there is a raw water pump ,sea water pump on the engine

Ayuh,..... Exactly, How are you feeding it water,..??

Thanks for your input guys. Seems the second pump is on the bottom left of the engine facing the bow. But what a terrible location. I'm not a big guy but this will be tuff. So I assume that this pump also has a rubber impellor. At least it lasted much longer than the other impellor on the front of the engine. 20 years is very good Is it the same kind of impellor as the other one. Thanks for all your input you guys are a lifesaver.

Ok i have more questions. I believe that the sea water pump is on the right side of the engine facing foward. Not sure what is on left side in about the same location. It appears to be a cooler of some kind. So since I have already replaced the impellor on the right side of the engine could it be the water pump on the front of the engine that is out. The boat is 20 years old

If you’re facing the engine, looking towards the rear of the boat, the sea pump is on the bottom left. The power steering pump is on the bottom right. And the engine water pump is in the center. The fuel pump and cooler are behind the power steering pump and hard to really see since it’s at the bottom of the engine. Or it could be on the same side as the sea pump depending on year. Also there is no way the sea pump impeller lasted 20 years, maybe 5-6 and that’s pushing it. The impeller kit is around $120 and yes it’s kinda of a pain but only because of the exhaust manifold. I am replacing my exhaust manifold and elbow and the sea pump is easy to get to when that’s removed. A mechanic would probably charge $300-400, but couldn’t really tell you since I do all my work on my boat.

Thanks for your help. I have replaced the impellor about 4 or 5 times since I bought the boat. I was looking at bottom left (facing foward from the stern) of the engine thinking that was the sea water pump. You mentioned an impeller kit. Does that give you more than the impeller. I have a new impeller which I will replace tomorrow. A few years back I found that the empeller housing was cracked and replaced it with a brass one. I am going to try and sand the inside of it as it is not as smooth as the plastic one

Could the water pump on the front of the engine have failed. I never thought of that until now. The engine has very low hours compared to its age. 248

So I took the sea pump off. The impellor looks good. I have a spare but since the one in it seems fine I was thinking maybe their is another problem. So I hooked a hose to the out drive and turned it on. No water was pumped into the boat. Why wouldn't water go into the sea pump.
Is there a valve that would stop water from getting to the sea pump

Ayuh,..... The muffs might be leaking to badly to push the water up to the raw water pump,.....
Or, The fitting where the water comes through the transom assembly is known to corrode shut,....

are you sure the water comes through the drive and not a intake on the hull bottom?

try running the hose into the water intake line that connects to the seawater pump and se where it flows to.
