Hi All,

Any tips on winterizing motor?
Can I:
1. Shut off fuel line, add stabilizer to Fuel Filter, run for five minutes.

2. Go by owners manual, pull each plug, etc...

I'd prefer 1 if it's as effective as 2.

thanks
Mark

Going by the manual will likely result in minimal adverse impacts. Most of the newer engines don't want to be 'fogged' or 'oiled' in the top end.

Two critical areas are the cooling system and the fuel systems. Cooling system needs protection from freezing and the 'old' methods are still viable. The fuel system needs to stay clean. many shops use an outboard tank with a 'treated batch' of fuel to feed in at the pump.

If you can get the search engine to work, LINESIX had a few posts covering this specific area in the past.

I did a search on linesix. Didn't see anything related.

For cooling system I do the following:
I have a valve diverter and hose just after my raw water intake. I throw the hose in a bucket of RV antifreeze and shut down the motor when I see it coming out of the transom exhaust.

Last year I used 'treated batch' in a portable outboard gas container. It was a bit messy. I ran the motor in this mixture for around 10-15 minutes.

I was just wondering if I can skip connecting another fuel supply and use the Fuel water separator Filter as a 'treated batch'.

Any recommendation for the contents of a 'treated batch'?

I have it written down somewhere...
Mercruiser fogging foam.
Stabil.

sounds like the cooling system is covered.

The drawback I see to the "batch" in the fuel filter is there isn't much there. If you want, I can check some of the newer merc manuals i have for specific recipes (no 'new' crusader stuff) over the next day or two. The 10 minute min sounds very familar.
