I need to find a replacement for ignition coil 584451. This is for an Evinrude 9.9 (year 2000). Currently there is one on Ebay for $250 and after some online searching I can't find anywhere else that has one for sale. And $250 seems a little high for a coil.
MarineEngine.com has the 584451 Kit for sale for $150. By the looks of it they took a different coil and put a wire splice on it to make it work in place of 584451. I called customer service and they don't have any more information on the kit than what is listed on the web page.
I'm wondering if anyone has any information about this kit or has used it before? By the looks of it they took a 583740 coil which has two separate coils that have two separate primary coil posts, then split the wire that would normally go to the single primary coil post on 584451, so that both secondary coil posts on 583740 will fire the spark plugs at the same time. Then they made a new bracket so the 583740 coil can be mounted in the same mounting holes that 584451 was (since the holes on each are different).
I'd like to just try and make this kit myself but I wanted to see if anyone has any information on this kit before I tried it.
