"I have a 1995 256 Monterey with a 5.8 volvo penta. Bought used, no problems until ran out of gas due to faulty fuel gauge. Now it will not idle when the engine is warm. Replaced fuel gauge, coil, and carb. Engine vaccum around 17 @ idle. Runs all day above 2000 rpm. Not spit no sputter. This is just a 351 with a Holly carb! I've built a lot of motors, but this one has everyone stumped!"

"17 psi at idle is a bit low, although most books list 17-21 to be okay. I would look for a vacuum leak."

"I went out yesterday and looked at all of the vaccum lines. All appeared good. Started engine cold, sprayed Gum Out all around base of carb and manifold. Could not detect and leak."
