"I have a 5.7GL that has a v-notch on the engine and a groove in the harmonic balancer so my question is, is the what you set the timing to or am I missing a degree plate/sticker, when set to these marks with a timing light it does not run good and my vacuum drops to around 10.also this is one of twins and the other engine is the same way with another odd thing, the distributor on this motor is 180Degrees different from the first engine but it runs, how is this possible? Any help would be appreciated"

"You need a special timing light where you can set the advance. Many engines come with a sticker in the harmonic balancer, but with the advance feature in the timing light the sticker is not important."

"If You do not have a timing light with built in advance, do as follows.
Take a tape measure and measure around the balancer.
Divide by 360, and You have a measurement pr degree.
If 8 degrees BTDC, measure out and make a punch mark on the balancer. Then align the new mark with the notch."
