"I need Help! Just bought a 97' seaswirl stripper with a 5.7 GSI inboard and have had it on the water a few times with no engine/cooling system problems at all-ran perfectly and maintained around 180 degrees. After the last trip we decided to change the belts and after all the belts came off I noticed that the circulating water pump had lots of play- could move the pulley around a lot. Bought new factory pump and replaced on motor with new belts and when I tried the engine out after this, it overheats and the engine would die out if I gave it much gas at all- had to idle back to dock. Checked the sea water pump and impeller looks good. When I connect the water hose to the lower unit no water comes up to the sea water pump (tested with pump removed and hose laying in place). removed inlet hose to oil cooler and tried again with same result but when I spray water down from the oil cooler hose, it comes out of the lower unit. after I noticed the overheating problem, tried running engine with water hose attached and no cooling water was coming out of the exhaust hose. I don't understand what could have changed by just replacing the circ. pump. Any help would be greatly appreciated."
