What are the symtoms of bad exaust manifolds?

overheating!! water in cylinde

overheating!! water in cylinders! mine also toasted a couple of valves on the head when it went. (mine was the exaust risers)

I got a bent rod from water in

I got a bent rod from water in cyl.Found riser to manifold gaskets leaking bad.Having them hot tanked and surfaced then leak tested now.Guess I better pull the valves and inspect them as well.Thanks Garry

"Heard today from mechanic that sterndrives will sometimes take in water through exhaust flappers.THE RIGHT SWELL catches you and your sucking water,bending rods,generaly having a bad day.Any thoughts?
