56 Evinrude 30 carb question

New to the forum. Have a 56 Evinrude 30 HP. Still has the old fuel system with crankcase pressurizing fuel system. Or should I say used to pressurize fuel system. I don't see any leaks but need to keep pushing button on tank to keep pressure. One thing I notice is with the engine not running when I pump button on tank fuel runs out of carb. It looks like it's coming from the nozzle that sprays fuel into carburetor throat. Is that normal? I replaced the needle and seat. Cork float appeared to be OK but not sure how to test it. Ideas? Suggestions?:confused:

Thanks for the information. I have a 30 horse, article is for 18 horse. Not sure if this will work Hear you can somehow use a low pressure electric fuel pump though? any articles on this. Carb looks like it was gone through. I put new needle and seat in but it all looked new. Not sure how float should be set?

Thanks! My riding mower has a pulsating pump. First time I'd seen one but it works..... A video would sure be greatly appreciated if you can find it.

Many thanks. I think carb was rebuilt but I'm not sure if float is new. It sure looks OK. Any idea if nozzle in carb should be weeping fuel when I pressurize tank (not running). Seems to me if float/needle/seat were doing their jobs there shouldn't be anything like that happening.

A plugged carburetor bowl vent will cause fuel to squirt up out of the main nozzle when you prime it. It is a honkin' big vent hole, nevertheless it can be plugged by dirt daubers or owners trying to stop an overflow problem. Vent is the hole next to the air intake as you are looking at the front of the carburetor.

Just to make it clear , when you pump the primer button on the tank you are pumping fuel into the carburetor.----Once the motor starts it quickly pumps air into the tank and that is what keeps the fuel flowing to the motor.-----Cap on tank must be tight.

I'll check this out today. Carb looked clean inside when I changed needle and seat. Float sure didn't look bad. It was cork and I don't know how to test it. Going to make sure float is parallel to carb per prior post. Carb doesn't look like POS so it has to be something simple (famous last words).

Just want to be sure here. When I hit primer button to build fuel pressure should I or should I not see fuel weep out of main nozzle?

Wanted to thank you guys. Took carb off again and noticed bowl gasket wasn't allowing float movement. Have pressure now in tank so will hold off on conversion. Think I will replace lines and put hose clamps on all ends, though.
