"sounds like they have the pos

"sounds like they have the pos batt cable,..hooked to the starter....did this come w/a sm elect box?"

theres no box that i can see b

theres no box that i can see but the cover only comes off on one side i started it on the lake by toutching the cables to the battery that wont hurt it will it

"no,...but,it needs to be wire

"no,...but,it needs to be wired thru a solenoid...and i believe, the 56 had a solenoid box that mounted in boat..maybe not..look on eng for a starter solenoid."

ok i took the seloinoied off t

ok i took the seloinoied off the other engig that wont stay in gear got it wiered up and running and after all was said and done igot it on tthe lake and wham no power trying to go and it jerks oh and the selinoid went out so back to wire toutching till i get anotherone but the no power and the jerking r the major problem now any thoughts

"u need to ck the spark, sounds

"u need to ck the spark, sounds like u have no spark,or intermittent spark,on 1 cylinder...another possibility is gear prob AND ign probs.
1.ck spark
2.ck compression"

the plugs r good have spark on

the plugs r good have spark on both and the engin will run with either one removed i dont know how to or have anything to check the compression

This motor can be pull started

This motor can be pull started without too much difficulty. The only problem might be if the motor is mounted in a way that it is difficult to get close to the pull cord. You have to be more specific about exactly what's wrong with the motor....I am not sure what you mean by "Jerking"...is it jumping out of gear??? is it running on one cylinder and then on two cylinders???? The original solenoid assembly was inside the boat and enclosed in an aluminum case...it's a pretty simple set up and not hard to duplicate with readily available parts

the solenoid wont be a problem

the solenoid wont be a problem to replace i got that down the engin fires on both cylinders and stays in gear the moter jerks it goes rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr jerk rrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
i know thats funny but i dont know how else to explain it it runs but not with much power its only a 30 hp but it still just barely pushes the boat its a 70's model national tri hull

"Is this the old pressure fuel

"Is this the old pressure fuel tank system? Is it like its coughing, spiting, misfire? Check for water in the fuel. Also most of those motors had a fuel filter with a glass bowl on the side of the motor. If there is water in the fuel it will be in this filter bowl and easy to spot. If it is the pressure tank system, check that the tank is holding pressure."

ill check for the water and it

ill check for the water and it is a pressure system but i dont think its loosing pressur ive got it hooked to a new plastic can and it swells up nice and will stay that way for days if i let it but it and the line both are holding the pressure but like i said ill chech the filter and let u know thanks again

Are you nuts? Pressurizing a p

Are you nuts? Pressurizing a plastic fuel tank is just asking for trouble. Have you ever seen how well build one of the pressure tanks are? They are built like that for a reason.
Jeez man use your head.
