'55 Evinrude 15 hp fastwin throttle gear/rod replace

Just got a '55 Evinrude Fastwin 15 but the throttle gears are shot(all teeth come to points on both gears) and trying to get replacements. Does anyone know if '56 Evinrude Fastwin 15 or a '57 Evinrude 18 would work?

All I can say is find some old parts books and start comparing. JMO

There were two types of gears. The older ones (yours) were stamped gears with pointy teeth. The change came 1956-ish to cast gears with rounded teeth. You can use the newer style from the motors you mentioned if you replace both gear/shaft assemblies.

EDIT: Yours may not be shot. They may just need some spacers. But the newer round teeth work much better---the reason OMC made the change.
