50TLR smokey

How smokey should a 2008 50TLR be? Just had a carb rebuild and all mixture screws are turned 2 rotations out. The oil system seems to be functioning normally but it seems like a lot of smoke out the relief port, more than I would have imagined. It seems to stay steady even after it warms up. Any thoughts appreciated.

Smokeyness can be caused by a number of things.

Idle mixture screw setting is 1 and 1/8th turn out from being lightly seated.

Has the oil pump control rod linkage broken and come loose? Common problem on older motors.

Is the oil pump control rod set to the proper specification?

Is Yamalube being used? A 100% synthetic oil will smoke less. Possibly much less.

Thanks for response
I will try resetting the mixture screws at that spec. I was getting some sneezing/popping at 1-1/2 thought it was lean but also it had ran with fouled carbs for some time
I don’t think the linkage is broken, it seems to be moving correctly with the bottom carb link, but I am not sure the default spec.
The only book I have on this is a generic 1997 and up 2-300hp Yama 2-stroke manual which is vague
The oil appears to be Lucas generic tcw-3 mineral based, at least that’s what was left on the boat.
I’ve only ran it in a 40gal bucket so far
I will double check the linkage again tomorrow to make sure I’m not overlooking anything.
