1.a peak reading volt/ohm meter
2.a factory service manual
if u see any melting looking parts,stator,..under flywheel,...repl it weather it tests good or bad...
ur prob....is prob ur power pack.."

jwb thanks for reply stator ass. looks fine.have 2 yellows 1brwn/yell. 1 brwn . 1 ornge/blk
1 ornge coming from stator ass but dont know which wire is for what. do you have any links for wire colour codes and wiring schemetics and component specs
etc.have no manual at this stage thanks jim.

"have 79 evinrude 115 runs fine for about 15min then drops from 5000 rpm to 2000rpm runs for awhile like that then dies wont start for about 20 min. then that cycle repeats itself. pulled all plugs left side looks good, right side looks brand new too clean .right side power pack seem like all the wires got real hot some insulation melted but no bare wire showing.after seeing that i spliced the bad wire,left side looks good maybe its been replaced,also left side power pack color is black ,right side color of power pack is blue,now motor ran for about a hour fine then acted up, also looks like motor got real hot at one time not just becuse power pack wires crunchy looking, coil packs dont look great but there wires do ,another wire next to spark plug wire, looks like single temp wire insulation is completly off, same on both sides of motor can anyone please help thank you.i forgot to add that i put some sea foam with the gas at the same time fixing the wire on power pack."
