"This is a GM MFI engine and I

"This is a GM MFI engine and I want to ensure the timing is accurate before I put it back in the water. The manual simply states NA, but there is a mark on the balance wheel and an corresponding "V" to line it up. I lined up the mark to the V and ensured number one was on the compression stroke and inserted my distributor aligning the rotor with the number one pin on the cap. I also noticed a factory paint line on the base of the distibutor to the block, so I lined that up as well. Right now I am confident that the engine is properly static timed, but how can I ensure that it is accurate? If I use a timing gun, what should I be looking for? The engine starts and idles fine, but I noticed that after going to WOT and dropping back to idle quickly, it almost stalls. There also seems to be an intermittent miss from time to time. Any help would be greatly appreciated."
