"Hello everyone! Let me say I have found some great information here on the forum and finally decided to register. I look forward to future discussions and knowledge sharing. I have a 2001 Stingray 200LX equipped with the 5.0Gi & SX drive. I purchased my boat new and have meticulously maintained the boat, motor & drive unit... Probable to the point its overkill but with that said my boat still looks brand new and I have had zero problems out of the engine/drive unit. I have right around 220 hrs and its been paid off for a while now. I have been tossing around the idea of buying a 230SX equipped with a 496. Simply because I want to go faster. With the ZP hull my 200LX can easily hit 58-59mph and I have seen an honest 61mph. I dont want another payment so I have decided to find out exactly what I can do with the 5.0 My goal is 70-72mph, I have been a member of stingrayboats.com since 2002, according to the folks on the forum the 200 hull can safely handle the speed but need at least 350hp (maybe a little more) to reach my goal of 70mph. With that said I have the option of a total re-power with a 5.7 with performance upgrades. I would like a stroked 383 but we are talking $$$$ and would be pushing the limits of the torque & HP limits of the SX. My question is, what is a good re-build option for my existing 5.0 that would get me close to 350 prop HP without being a total maintenance nightmare. Ideas and suggestions please. I know there are a lot of variables.."

"Couldnt agree more, 5.7 with a mild cam, upgraded heads (if the budget allows) and a 6-71 or 8-71 blower with a nice shiny holley!"

"All the ancillaries would fit straight on, not sure about heads though, i would imagine you would have to source 5.7 heads as the 5.0 heads would be a bit restrictive. Inlet manifold and exhaust is all the same fitments though."

"Thanks Paul, I would get a replacement block with the heads and exhaust but no injection, ignition and the rest. So, it could work then... Would the fuel system make it with the increased displacement you think?"

"uummm, not too sure on the injection side of things. Im not the familiar with the system, do they have a preset fuel amount or do they have a contantly adjusting system (O2 sensor in exhaust)? If the system does adjust itself then it will automatically richen the mixture to allow for the extra capacity. It may be a case of getting it plugged in to have it recallibrated for the new engine."
