"model 50ES It will crank very fastand 150psi compression, plugs out but no spark , it was running ok last summer but engine getting over heating I was going to change pump now I have no spark at all.
Can you help me to diagnosis this problem?"

Remove s/plugs. Disconnect RED

Remove s/plugs. Disconnect RED elec plug at engine. Jump solenoid to crank engine and check spark. Do you have spark now?

"Switch the primary (orang

"Switch the primary (orange) wire from the firing coil to the non firing coil.

If the non firing coil now fires, then obviously the coil is okay. If this is the case, check very closely "all" connections between the timer base and the powerpack as one lead may be flawed.

However, if the non firing coil still does not fire after switching that wire, and the connections mention in the above paragraph are okay...... suspect the powerpack."

"I switched orenge wire and now sparking, also cked all the wire connection and tighten and switch back no spark, do I need new pawer pack?
what is the timer base and what it look like? Thanks from Tom."

"I assume that both coils fire

"I assume that both coils fire if you switch the orange leads..... both coils are okay.

The timer base is the component under the flywheel that moves when throttle is applied. This movement advances or retards the spark as needed.

If all of the connections/wiring are as they should be, I would think that the powerpack has a problem, HOWEVER..... since I retired right around that era, suggestions from other members are most welcome in this area."

"Thank you very much Joe.Befre I posted.
I talked with a well experienced outboard engine technition, first thing he said was winter kill on powerpack. He was too busy to tell me how to diaginosis. I will try new powerpack.
When I get new one and let you know.
Thank for now from tom."
