Was looking for some tech info on my 1989, Crusader 502 engines, gasoline octane rating required, and zinc requirement in the oil. The oil I'm using has 1375 ppm. These engines are in 33,000 lbs. aft cabin cruiser with 580 hours on them. Thanks for your time!

Crusader didn't make any 502 engines in 1989...typo?

their standard production engines from the mid-late 80's were built to run on 89 octane...

That much "zinc" is more than enough for a flat tappet GM cam...

as far as figuring out what you have, it is usually best to find the block casting numbers and go from there...any good machine shop should be able to fill in the blanks

Sorry for the late reply, have been very, very, busy. No Crusader 502,1989...very interesting! I will research those number as you requested. Thank you for you technical information and your time!!!!!

I'm pretty sure GEN V 502's were introduced to the marine world about 1993...I think GM introduced the GEN V's in 91...

Well, here is some feed back Makomark. Here are the numbers I found, port engine block # T01239FA, C-502LH, 81353, and starboard # T02159FB, C-502RH, 81350. I thought the engines were original to the boat, 1989 C/C Catalina 427. Any info you might have on these number, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!

Learn something new every day....i didn't know that GM had a production 502 engine using the Mark IV block until now...thought they made their marine debut with the Gen V roll out but that isn't true..

The serial numbers fall into the "1989" range so I would say they are the original powerplants.

As far as the zinc in the oil needs, I think you are fine...what other data did you need?
