50 hp water pump replacement questions

There was a small o ring that came with the new rebuild kit that I purchased does it go on the top of the drive shaft....? Also do I put a sealant ibetween the lower end and exhausted housing before bolting it up, on a 1983 Johnson 50 hp motor model j50belcta. Thank for any help on this
 
There should be a "O" Ring in the groove you see there and grease on the top splines of the driveshaft, needed to prevent the driveshaft splines from rusting into the crankshaft splines.

Sealant is not needed between the lower unit and the long exhaust housing BUT should you desire to seal it.........

OMC Adhesive is now Bombardier 3M Product #847 and may also be listed as Scotchgrip 847, part number 776964
 
Thanks so much, Ive pretty much went through and replaced everything on this engine so figured to rebuild the water pump because while water testing I wasnt getting any water stream but after taking the water pump cover off, The impeller looked brand new and seemed to be working fine, I might have had a crimp in the hose....! But other than that everything seemed fine would you suggest any other problems if the water still isnt flowing strong....?
 
I found out what was wrong and posting so no one else makes such an idiotic move, so when I was reinstalling the lower end I was working by my self and had a little trouble getting the drive shaft in and somehow over looked the water tube from the pump to the engine wasnt in, I lowered the lower end again and fixed it...lesson learned....thanks everyone for the help
