50 hp SLOW

I have a 50 hp evinrude that says is overheating and kicks into slow. I just replaced thermostat and impeller. Engine is cool to touch when running. I also replaced the power pack just over a year ago as well. Any ideas to trouble shoot.
 
on the head is a temp sensor with a tan wire or blue / tan etc, trace it and simply disconnect,.
if you have electric start disconnect battery wait 5 seconds than connect battery start up and see how she runs.

I this dont change anything then its the diode in the wires, but I think it will be a bad temp sensor.

do you still have he vro all running on tis motor ? if yes then when was the last time you cleaned out the oil tank filter ?
Not enough oil can also send motor into S.L.O.W mode, or the diode in he line.

I had same trouble with the slow function on my 1995 60hp triple, mine was the daft diode. But it is normally a bad temp sensor.
 
Ok water temp light is now off but engine is still in the slow mode. Idles and starts perfect but will not run at full throttle. tried resetting the alarm by disconnecting battery. Has spark on both cylinders.
