50 hp mercury- water pump

83/84 50 HP Mercury - replaced water pump and ran ok with flush hose. When we tried to use it it stopped shooting water out tell-tale. Dropped lower unit again and went thru everything. All appeared fine. Put back int he water with same results, shoots water out with flush hose but not when running at higher idle. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

The flush hose alone will do that!

Drop the LU again and bucket test it with a drill. You'll find out if it's pumping or not, then go on from there.

When you installed the impeller did you turn the driveshaft clockwise. Never turn it counterclockwise once the impeller is installed. I remove the spark plugs and turn the flywheel clockwise to line up the splines. Are you testing it in a barrel or on the muffs?

Thanks for the info. , testing on muffs. Can't really answer about the clockwise rotation issue, I had my helper with me (19 yr old ) But will try this.
