"when i cruse down lake engine bogs down and primer bulb seems to lose prime. if i pump it engine recovers.problem is intermittent! it's been going on for 3 years. once in a while a constant (no oil) beep goes off. I've changed the plugs, added dry gas, fuel filter, fuel line with primer bulb. it happens with either tank. If i sit in the back and keep primer bulb firm it runs fine"

"constant horn is overheat...no oil,is rapid beeps...sounds like your vro pump is bad(fuel sd)"

You state the engine runs fine

You state the engine runs fine as long as you pump the fuel primer bulb (acting as a manual fuel pump). The problem's cause..... the fuel pump is faulty.

local mechanic said they were

local mechanic said they were ventless because both plastic tanks were pressurized. not sure how they vent! you mentioned vent pins! a small hole inside the cap but looks solid outside. can i just loosen the cap?

"if u have plastic tanks,look

"if u have plastic tanks, look on top of fill cap,for a small cap...loosen it....if there.."

Many OMC tanks vent when the connector is attached to the tank. Two pins / valves are opened one to let fuel out and the other to let air in.

"those are only on metal tanks,i thougt,he has plastic,...they make a plastic,w/the vent pins??"

The Dura tanks has a plastic vent/fuel valve pin (yellow) at the connector at the tank.

they are Dura tanks. went out

they are Dura tanks. went out yesterday and loosened the fill cap and it ran fine for over one hour!

"Then either the vent system is broken, or the quick connector on the hose does not seat properly. Had a lot of problems with people using aftermarket hoses/connectors on those tanks. It was even a 'recall' don't remember exact when, but late 90's.
Does the tank connection have a yellow pin sticking out?
Easiest solution might be just to buy a vented cap."

"Your first post stated "If i sit in the back and keep primer bulb firm it runs fine".

My first reply stated "You state the engine runs fine as long as you pump the fuel primer bulb (acting as a manual fuel pump). The problem's cause..... the fuel pump is faulty".

Now..... If there was a vent problem, the fuel primer bulb would be drawn flat and you would not be able to pump the fuel primer bulb in order to have the engine run fine as long as you do so as initially stated.

Does this not indicate a faulty fuel pump?

this is the problem i'm having. would the fuel pump work fine like it did yesterday and then other days cut out? and when it is bogging down i can pump the primer bulb and the engine recovers! this has happened intermittently for two seasons. would'nt the pump have failed by now?
