Engine would start and run smoothly but not generate enough power to get boat on plane. Turned out to be a bad coil for the bottom cylinder. Got a new one from Standard Magneto Sales in Chicago for $75. Runs perfectly now. Too bad the cold, rainy weather is setting in.
 
How did you determined it was the coil and not the CDI unit. I have the same problem with the same engine and i can't tell for sure which unit is bad, coil or CDI. My testing and trouble shooting seems to indicate the CDI unit.

Can you also send more info on where you bought the new coil.

Using a spark tester I found that the bottom plug was not firing. I then swapped the coils and the bottom plug fired. I took that to mean that the problem was with the coil. I got the part number searching online (boatsnet.com) and found the best price at: Standard Magneto Sales Company, Inc. 4119 West Grand Avenue, Chicago, IL 60651. They have a website which is good for looking up what they stock but the best way to order is to phone them. Ph. # 1-800-624-6386,

Thanks for the info, I'll trouble shoot the coil and CDI and contact Standard Magneto for parts.
