"I have a 1972 15 Ft. arrow glass (model Dolfin) tri-hull. It has a 50 HP Force outboard that is not working, I Was told it was not worth fixing. Does anyone know the max. HP outboard this boat can have on it?"

"Robert, NADA doesn't have a listing for the max horsepower on your boat. Maybe a websearch for a classic boat site (find some other owners) who still have a sticker/plate intact with the info on it.

I would suspect though the 50 was probably fairly close (maybe 60 or 75 max) - and that would be old "2 Stroke". Now it isn't so much the horsepower that is restricted but more so the weight of the new 4 stroke motors. An identical model from Lund was rated at 150 horses in 2006 and only 115 in 2007 - I asked why - the answer - a 4 stroke 115 weighs as much as a 2 stroke (traditional) 150. So in order for the boat to handle the same they reduced the max horsepower.

Side question - do you know what is wrong with the motor other than "it's not worth fixing". There may not be that much wrong and depending on the model year, might be economical to fix..."
