50 HP Force Thermostat

Can someone please tell me if my 50 Hp Force motor can run ok without the thermostat being in it, also what is the reason for the thermostat in a boat motor like the one I have?

The motor was designed to run and operate at it's optimum,when it hits a certain temp.
Too cold and it won't restart good and can cause carbon build up.Poor performance.
You CAN operate without it.I wouldn't.
Any motor I work on usually comes with some kind of guarantee.I find out the customer changes things(no thermo)I change the guarantee.No thermo no guarantee.J

I have a 1988 Force 50hp. I can't find the thermostat in any of the diagrams I have. Can someone tell me where it is located? Thanks

88/50 Top of the head above the spark plugs.
Kinda like a round or rectangular box with 3 or 4 screws.
If it's been in salt water be real carefull removing the screws!!!!!!!!
