50 Hp Evinrude will not warm up

I have a older 50 hp Evinrude and it will start with the throttle arm in the up position and when you put it down it dies. you can slam the throttle down and hammer it into gear and it will run i want to ease into gear, not to mention you can not run it on a tailor

What's the model number of that engine? Check the compression, what are the readings? Check the spark... depending on the model number (make, year, hp) it must jump either a 1/4" or 7/16" gap with a strong blue lightning like flame... a real SNAP!

What spark plugs are you using, and at what gap setting?

If compression and spark are as they should be, the problem is usually fouled carburetors which need cleaning and rebuilding.
