50 horse mercury running problems

I have a 50 horse mercury that will crank perfectly and run great untill it heats up and then it will shut off and will not start back up. Dose anyone have an idea for me. Thanks

Is this a 1954 motor or something a little newer like a 2005 perhaps ???---------------------Post as much info as you can !!!
