5 hp water pump

have 1997 5hp, had new water pump installed, with imprller & parts, pumps fine in foward, no water in N or REv, air comes out

The symptom really makes no sense. Clearly you aren't pumping to the powerhead in N or R. But, the pump runs any time the motor is running, period. I would go back to the person who installed the pump kit. BTW, the "air" that is coming out is actually exhaust. Since the water intake is on the underside of the ventilation plate, if you are trying to test run in a bucket or similar apparatus, you may just not have enough water. Do you have the motor installed on the boat, in the water?

person who installed it not around, just ran it in the bay on boat in foward pumps good, will soon haul boat i will check out the impeller, i thank you for responce
