"I have recently purchased a 1

"I have recently purchased a 1951 5 hp model tn 27 sea horse motor.I cant stop the fuel from coming out of the carb,The needle and seat won't shut off the fuel.I changed the cork float to a I guess a plastic float that came with the motor. The person I bought it from had already replaced the origanal cork float with another cork float,But It didn't stop the carb from flooding. When I first changed the float,I thought It was fixed. It didn't leak fuel at first. It ran good. But after about thirty minutes,It started leaking again.I found a carb for sale on ebay off a 1947 johnson TD 20.I asked the seller If he thought It may fit,But he hasn't answered me.It looks like my carb in the photos.I have found the carb gaskets,But can't seem to find the neddle/seat and float.I have taken my carb apart,The seat appears to be part of the carb. Any suggestions is appreciated."

"Buy a new carb kit yourself the guy that had it before you may have gotten the wrong carb kit and put it on anyways to get rid of it faster, i believe the carb kits have everything you need gaskets, and float. When i redid my carbs at the beginning of the year the carb kit had both the needle seat and the orifice. I would try and check that first."

"I bought another carb this mo

"I bought another carb this morning. If it don't work out,I will try and find a kit for it.Thanks Louis"

"TN-27 1950/51 5hp Johnson

Albert.... They never made a carburetor kit for that model. If you can find those long ago items, they'll need to be purchased individually.

My TN-27 parts manual lists the float and needle valve as:

Float is # 3-68

Float Needle Valve is #41-93

I'd suggest that you purchase some very fine valve grinding compound, apply a small amount to the needle valve taper and the mating surface of the carburetor and attempt to lap that taper back to its original sealing condition.

I strongly suspect that a ridge has developed in that area which is the cause of the flooding.

When time permits, visit my eBay store at: http://stores.ebay.com/Evinrude-Johnson-Outboard-Parts-etc?refid=store"

"Thanks for the Information Jo

"Thanks for the Information Joe.I hope the carb I just bought will work good. The person I bought It from said It works great. If not,I will do what you suggested.I have ground valves before with that compound,So I know what your are telling me.What confused me was The bottom of the carb where the needle seats,Looked like the seat was part of the carb housing.I will have three carbs to work with,So I should get something going right. Thanks much."

"Thanks Joe,I thought somethin

"Thanks Joe,I thought something was missing. So I guess the needle seats against the hole in the housing.I wouldn't thought that metal against metal would stop the flow of fuel.I guess it is a good idea to always turn the fuel tank cut off off when not running motor. Thanks."
