5 amp fuel feed pump fuse blows

2005 F225 1500 hours. Within last 8 days, the 5 amp fuse that controls the fuel feed pump has blown. Each time it seems to occur at start-up. First time it happened, I replaced the fuse and motor ran great rest of day and started & ran great the next day. Went fishing 5 days later, the fuse blew on start-up. Replaced fuse and no problems rest of day. Returned home, started motor to flush it and fuse didn't blow.

Dealer thinks it's a problem with either the fuel feed pump or the wiring harness. Doesn't recommend "throwing parts at it" becasue of cost - new fuel feed pump $500. Wants me to continue to run until problem is more frequent or blows fuse each time it's replaced.

I've checked this forum and some suggest it might be water in the fuel - I checked the water separator and fuel filter in motor and no evidence of water.

I would appreciate greatly any advice forum members might supply!

You need to get a DC amp clamp and clip it over the feed wires at the fuel pump. You will have to bypass the fuse while doing this test so you can see the amperage drawn by the pump. Do this on the initial start when the fuse would typically blow.

You will probably find that the pump has an initial amperage over draw. Pump is locking up while static.
