I started my motor tonight, turned right over, ran mayb35-45 seconds and stalled out. When I tried starting again, sounded very bad, things Ive never heard before. Not even close to truning over. All fluids checked out, last ran about 5 days ago, ran perfect. Any ideas?
 
Not sure if I can describe it-almost sounded like a loud banging, not even close to turning over. Batteries, fluids, etc. all looked OK. Sounded like the damn engine was coming apart, so I didn't try too many times.
 
First do a visual inspection of the engine compartment for anything out of order. Next pull the cap off of the top of the OD and look for gear damage. Also remove the drain screw from the OD and look for metal fragments while holding a finger over the drain hole. If all looks OK then pull the OD off and try to crank the engine a few seconds w/the ignition coil disconnected. Doing that should isolate the problem between the engine and OD.
