I have a 1988 Century 3500 and 2 years I bought the boat and took it out for the 1st time and hit something so hard it broke a propeller blade and poked a hole in the lower unit.
I limped back to the dock and loaded it up and took it home where it sat until now.

I replaced the lower unit, put a new impeller pump and propeller. I took it out this morning and it began to get hot pretty much immediately.

Not sure what to check.....
Maybe I put the fins the wrong direction, maybe something further up got hot and melted.(My old impeller got so hot it was almost turned it into a liquid from trying to limp home)

You might have parts of the old impeller stuck somewhere. Had that happen to mine once. Only way is to start taking hoses off and looking.

PS: I assume you replaced the impeller with the complete KIT, not just the impeller. If not...

Thanks. Yes I replace the impeller with an entire kit. I even had to replace the housing that the water tube goes to coming off the impeller.

how do you know if you have the impeller fins going the right direction or does it make any difference?
