5.7 Carbed Vortec Crusader Timing Mark

Hi Guys,
I just replaced a Prestolite distributor in what I believe to be a 2000- 2003 5.7 Carbed Vortec. There is no timing tab but there is a notch cast into the front timing cover. It appears to be in the area of where a tab would be. Is this a timing mark? If so does it represent TDC or 0 degrees. I know the total timing figure is 26 degrees BTDC.

Thanks,
Jon Allen

if you are talking about a notch that's in a protruding boss in the timing cover, yes...

you can verify it by pulling #1's spark plug and rotating the engine until the marks align and seeing if the piston is @ TDC....of course, a piston stop would be the most accurate way of finding TDC.
