5.0 Volvo penta

I got a 5.0 Volvo penta the whole boat has power besides ignition ,trim motor and fuse box on the motor any suggestions looked over everything can’t seem to find anything turn the key I get nothing no power to ignition
 
Check the ignition fuse/breaker
There will be a 15 to 20 amp fuse or breaker on the red/purple wire feeding the key switch. Might be an in line fuse behind the helm
 
I by passed that fuse next to the ignition still nothing I just did head gaskets thought I might of missed something putting it back together but I’ve checked it over multiple times I can’t find anything weird that everything else in the boat has power
 
Use a voltmeter and trace the wires
Bat to starter and to engine breaker - Red
After breaker - Red/Purple
Ignition power - Purple
 
Ok got it working for the most part the wires on the starter were backwards but now it blows the 20a ignition breaker after a few seconds of key on
 
Ok all dodge I got it figured out thanks for your help the starter wires were backwards I timed the engine it starts up idles and runs fine for about 4 seconds then it’s just somebody hit the key off
 
It ran long enough to set timing and now it only runs for 4 seconds?

Getting into other things so lets start with which 5.0 do you have? Serial number is best, but at least type (5.0 GL-A,B, GXI-A,B, GI, etc)

Put a voltmeter on the plus side of the coil and see if 12V drops
