4hp Evinrude no spark

Hello. I just purchased a 79 evinrude 4hp and need some help with a no spark issue on both cylinders. The engine ran perfect the first few times I tried it and yesterday I installed a new carb kit and put it all back together and it started up second pull and ran without a hiccup for a minute or so. Then just like that it died and I could not get it re started. Checked to make sure in was getting fuel and it was and then I checked if it had spark. Nope no spark on both cylinders when I grounded the plugs to the block and pulled it over. Installed 2 new plugs and still no spark. I moved the engine to my shop and in total darkness tried again and I could see a spark for a quick second and then nothing again. The coils look good as in no cracks or anything. Question is where to start to find the problem? Thanks.

Pull the connectors apart and clean with electrical cleaner and put back together with dielectric grease. Possible bad connection clean the ground going to the powerpack and pull the coils and make sure they also have a good ground. The proper way to diagnose a CD ignition is with a DVA adaptor a no spark on both cylinders could any one of the components charge coil, trigger or powerpack. If the trigger and charge coil test good then the pack is likely the problem. You can build a cheap DVA with a capacitor, resistor and diode. Go through the wires and grounds and then go from there.

Thanks for the quick reply. I will start with the grounds and dielectric grease and hopefully that's the problem and if not the fun begins. The motor is in good shape so I believe it is worth fixing. I will report back with what I find.
