I just bought a 4 horse evenrude 1980 model with the weedless drive. i am putting it on 15 ft square stern canoe. The prop points at downward angle. Anybody have input on pros/cons on this weedless drive lower unit, it looks strange. I would appreciate any input, thanks.

The weedless props are great. You will love it as they were popular way back in the 50's and still making them. They go through weeds and you just keep truckin!

Thanks for the reply, I fish coastal flats in very shallow water and lots of grass. I think the angle of the drive helps keep the bow of the canoe from raising up, so far it works ok. I was told that these engines are prone to over heat with weak impeller. Glad to find this forum, thanks for input.

I think they started in the 40's as I have a 1947 2h.p. You still have to keep the weeds off the intake holes.
