48hp Johnson Special

Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum, but I figure this is probably one of the best places to have a couple questions answered. I have a 20ft pontoon boat, with a 48hp Johnson Special, J48ESLETE to be exact. The motor had the manual tilt when I bought the boat, which promptly locked up, so, I bought a used electric tilt unit on Ebay. It works fine by the way, the problem I'm having is that I bought an online repair manual from Sealoc, to get the wiring diagram. I have wired my tilt motor according to the diagram, but I am having trouble wiring the relays (2) There are 5 pins on the relay, marked, 30, 85, 86, 87 & 87a, the wiring diagram marks them as V1,2,3,4,&5. I'm not sure which wire goes to which relay pin. If someone can tell me what the combination is I would be very appreciative. One relay has 4 connections and the other only 2 connections. The next problem I need help with is when I'm running across the lake the motor sometimes, most of the time, starts surging and if someone pumps the fuel bulb it will run smoothly for a while and then surges again. I've been told that it is the fuel bulb, and was also told that the fuel pump is the problem (weak). I don't mind replacing the bulb or rebuilding the fuel pump but would prefer to know for sure that those repairs will fix the problem. fuel pump diaphram needs to be re-newed.
get a carb rebuild kit and all will be well on the motor running side.
while getting the kit get some new fuel hose, and make sure its the right size id for that motor.
