My boat has been mothballed for the last 5 years and to my surprise it still runs great but my power trim isn't working from either of the three remote locations. Is there a proper way to test the trim solenoids? Am I looking in the right direction? Thanks.TH

"Hi there,

Firstly, REPLACE that impellor. After 5 years, it will have perished and you'd have an expensive anchor... May as well change the lube & check seals in lower unit too. It's really worth the peace of mind on the water, more so when you'd have to row back to shore...

Fuse shot?
Condition of wiring? Vermin are notorius at chewing their way through the conductors where we'd not be able to notice...
Solenoids clicking? Might not be getting any power to start off with...

Remove the wires to the trim pump and connect directly to a battery. If she works, next step. Using a multi meter, check solenoids output to trim pump for power, assuming that they do make a clicking sound. If they're quiet, might be that they not getting getting power to start off with.

Could also be an interruption in connection between the three points?

Hope this helps?

All the best & REMEMBER the first point..."
