"I was out for a cruise and my starboard engine fell on her face and the Check Engine light came on. I immediately shut her down and did a visual and found nothing wrong. I started it back up, but it would not fully power up. I took her back to the slip at 1000 rpm and shut her down. Now, I go to restart and the engine cranks over, but will not start. Also, none of the four lights of the ECM gauge come on when I turn the key. This is a '98 TB454XLI with 450hrs. Has anyone experienced this or have any recommendations as to what could be wrong?"

"When you turn the key on, does the engine alarm also NOT sound? My Stbd engine died on my last run of the season last year. No engine lights, no alarm, the engine turns over but would not start. After tracing a schematic diagram and using my multi-meter, I found the issue to be the ignition relay which powers the ECM.

I replaced the part and she worked fine. However, the replacement part I found to be poor quality and in fact stopped working half-way through this season. I found the contacts to be bent and were not touching. I bent them back and she has worked fine ever sense. But due to the poor quality, it is only time before she goes bad again. So, why buy one when you can buy two for twice the price.

You are absolutely correct! I had my friend Tom Hall from Precision Marine spend several hours with me today tracing the problem back to this relay. I had all of the same symptoms. Thank you very much for your valuable input.
