"at idle 700~ rpm it sounds like its missing ever now and then, and runs rough. It get the rpm up around 1500~ the miss is a bit more noticeable, but higher rpm that 1500 its hard to tell if there is still a miss. Now I am not a gear head by any means, so what sounds like a miss to me might not be. I have changed the plugs, wires, rotor and cap. The carb was rebuilt last winter. It starts easily, and I have checked the fuel filter and water separator and they both looked ok. Its in a 81 Trojan 10 meter and I am not sure what to check next."

Is the distributor points and condenser or electronic?

Did it develop the miss after

Did it develop the miss after the electronic components were replaced? Is the miss most noticeable when you accellerate quickly (punch it) from low speed to open trottle?

"I don't really notice it

"I don't really notice it while accelerating, but if I set the rpms any where from idle up to about 1500 - 2000 you hear a miss, but its not consistent miss from what I hear.

When I got the boat it already had the electronic ignition."

"When you got the new spark plugs did you get the same as the ones that were in it? Do you know the proper gap should be? If not, pull a spark plug and see what the gap is. Where did you get the spark plug wires?"

"I got the same plugs that were in there, gaped them to .035 per the book. I got the wires from napa"

"You did use a spark plug sock

"You did use a spark plug socket with a rubber protector inside, right? Double check that the plug wires are snug down. A dammaged or flawed at the factory plug wire would account for that or if you're lucky one of them is not all the way on. The only other thing is if one of the spark plugs has a hair line crack from being dropped or put in roughly. If snugging down does not help, run the engine at the point (rpms)where it misfires the most for about 15 minutes shut off and check plugs one at a time. Any that are blacker inside are misfiring. Either that plug has a hair line crack or the plug wire to that plug is flawed. Always put anti-sieze on the threads of sparkplugs that you are installing."

"Let it idle for 15 minutes, then pull the plugs out and look at the colors the tips are running. If any of them are oily and black, that cylinder is not running all the time. And be sure to use Never-Seize on the threads as you reinstall the plugs! Someone did not on mine and a plug snapped off in the head as I tried to get it out.

"I just used a socket whrech, and a few of the plug were not so easy to get in...I will do the 15 minute and pull the pulg test.

thanks guys"

Check your distributor timing

Check your distributor timing advance springs. They can rust out and cause the engine to backfire or miss at certain RPMS
