"I have a 39' Sea Ray with 454 Crusaders that runs and idles fine untill I try and accelerate and the port engine misses and back fires around 1800 rpm's.... I have checked the basics...plugs, cap, rotor, points etc..any thoughts would be helpfull!"

You're experincing Fuel Starvation,......
And,..... as noted by Jeff,.....
It could be Anything between the Tank,+the Carb,.....
Including both of them as well....."

"One more thing to check (as if you didn't have enough): Crossed ignition wires. Let her idle (warmed up) and pull one wire at a time out of the distributor cap (with heavy gloves and insulated pliers). THe motor should slow noticable, then pick up as you put the wire back. If it doesn't take a good look at that cylinder.

Finally, be sure the ignition wires aren't laying hard together to prevent a crossfire. The wires should be separated all the way from cap to plug. I put this "snake skin" plastic coinduits over my wires to keep them separated.

"Having the same trouble or missing back/firing:
1)Only happens at 2600 rpm or greater
2)When Under Load, especially humping along in a following sea.
3)At the end of the day fishing (for the most part idling/trolling at a low RPM).
4)Doesn't happen when running out in the beginning of the day.
5)And I tried to do a bit of preventative care and pulled cleaned and gapped the spark plugs three weeks ago and the leads, rotor and coil.

Has only happened the last two weekends, I have a left hand crank. Could anyone show me a schematic of how she should be wired. I do not know the cylinder numbering convention for the block.

Read this string and realized it could be the engine starving (less gas in the tanks at end of day combined with the boat in a following with the bow way up) or me making a careless error with the leads.

Thanks in advance,
Ken

Thought may"
