"Looking for IR temp data of oil filter and trans. case temp.or does anyone have Crusader spec's of what they recommended what the oil temp.should be in the engine itself. Thanks Dave for telling me about starting new discussion, wasn't paying attention of where i was in forum."

"Tom:

I doubt you will find a crusader provided set of temperatures. I think most of us use ATF in the gear. That starts to break down with a temp over 200 which I believe is consistent with the normal overheat switch installed at the factory. The lower bound would be driven by the load the gear sees. I'd guess 120 degrees would be about normal for idle just due to the pump's operation.

I've never measured the oil temps but would expect them be close to the coolant temp, maybe slightly higher (10-20 degrees). I sure there will be a lot of us making that measurement come springtime."

"Tom, Which year are your engines ?

Mark, Would the difference in year and configuration make a reasonable difference in these measurements?

I think it might be interesting to have a reference (like we have for many other systems)to compare. Could it be a predictor of pending needs?"

"Hi Tom; The Vel. Drive manu

"Hi Tom; The Vel. Drive manual calls for ATF replacement annually, at the 1000 hour mark, or if the temp ever hits 190 degrees. I haven't measured the trans oil temp with my meter, but I can keep my hand on the housing, so I'd guess 150 to 160 deg is about right. I do a change every other year.
For the engine oil, I've measured 198 deg at cruise power out of the engine and 165 deg coming out of the oil cooler."
