Noobie here, Awesome forum. Looking for some info on troubleshooting/tuning a pro flo EFI on a 454.

I've been asked by my brother in law to take a look at his motor. His regular mechanic can't figure it out and by default I'm the mechanic of the family. Lucky me. He has a 454 bored .060 over. Not sure if it's stroked or not. He has the original pro flo EFI installed. I have not looked at it yet but the motor was rebuilt last year and they were unable to get it running good. It idles poorly and while tuning they were unable to get the lean light out on the tuning cal module. Originally he had a pro-charger installed with the system but has destroyed several piston over the years. His mechanic advised him to remove the pro-charger thinking to much compression. Personally I'm wondering if the system may have been running to lean.

Guess I'm looking for some quick tips on troubleshooting and setup. Does the ECU have a removable chip that is specific for engine setup? Don't have much experience with EFI so any help would be appreciated. I told him I would take a look at it then swap it out with a 4 barrel so he could use it this year.lol. Simple but works.

Thanks in advance .

Ayuh,... You're dealing with a Not so Common aftermarket induction system...

If it was a Mercruiser system, We could probably Help...

My SWAG on this is that the system isn't calibrated for an overbored, i.e., larger displacement engine and it will run lean under some, if not all conditions.

Thanks for the info guys. Yeah not a very popular setup and not sure who installed it. More then likely I'm guessing it came of a car.
Sandkicker , I was afraid of that. Looks like I'll suggest the carb and go from there.

Thanks again. Anyone selling a manifold and carb setup or maybe the correct MPI system?
