"I have a 1981 Trojan with 440 chryslers. If I turn the starboard ignition key to "on" the digital volt meter will show an immediate drop from 12.8 to 11.8 if I leave it on.If I start the motor the alt. will not charge and it will cont. to drain the batt. Removed and tested alt.ok.new regulator.Traced and tested on the bridge and on engine.Batts tested ok.grounds on batts ok.If I disconnect + wire from coil it will spark on the coil post.the problem seems to be in the brown wire from ignition module.it splits into to wires one black to the coil one gray into the wire harness.Where does the gray wire go? Oh, new coil, ballast installed."

"Does your boat have a separate voltage regulator? If so, that could be the problem.

I replaced the external 2 wire

I replaced the external 2 wire regulator for that motor.I do not know of another for that motor. The port motor will charge and there is not a voltage drop as long as the starboard motor is off.I am gonna test the tach and stock volt gauge to see if the short is there and if that is where the gray wire runs to.
