"Finally got my project boat out - runs and gets up on plane until about 10 min of running then pops back thru the carb. checked timing, was erratic so the sensor was replaced - so timing is steady now and correct. Valves seem to be adjusted ok - manual says lean carb but there is only a idle mixture so?"

"Mixture at normal cruise power is determined by main jet size and float level.
If the jets are correct, you could try raising the float level 1/4" or so to richen the mixture.
If this has been going on a while you may need to do a carb kit.

"so we ran the boat again after changing float setting, re-torqing all the valves and it still pops - will replace the t-bolt4 module will have a carb rebuild kit in two days and will do carb - this is the most frustrating engine problem I have had - I should stick with diesels......"
 
Test the amplifier module per

Test the amplifier module per merc. procedure first to save big bucks. Timing is 8 deg. BTDC or it will backfire.

"I have a 2003 Carberated 4.3L Mercuiser that Pops thru the carb. I have checked the fuel changed fuel water seperator, put a carberator kit in it, Changed spark Plugs, Coil, Cap, rotory& pickup,Timed it at 10 degrees before top dead center as the book said. With the purple white wire grounded. The last thing I did is bought a high priced ignition control Module. It will idle but when I give it gas it starts poping thru the carb.I bought the book from West Marine and followed everything."

Start a new thread for all to see and you'll get the most help. Are you sure it is 10 deg. BTDC and not 8 deg.? Are you holding the timing tight directly over the timing marks at 12:00 O'clock? If not it will be off a deg. or two.
