"I dont know if you all remember me but i have the inherited 19 ft bowrider that had the starter engaging problems. Well my amazing girlfriend bought me a new starter for my birthday. I installed it and its working great. But like any other sitting boats i am into another can of worms. I am harving starting/idling problems. I have a few questions that i thought you all might be able to give me some help with.

First and foremost there is a choke valve on the top of the carb, correct? I believe that to be so because when i manually controlled it at cold start it helped the boat to start. My main question there is are there supposed to be any springs connected to the linkages for this choke plate? Mine has none on it and it does not seem to be opperating correctly.

Secondly where are the water outputs on the hull? i cant seem to locate them... do the just come out of the outer unit?

Lastly the pcv valves to not seem to connect to anything... they just connect to a flat piece of metal which seems to just bolt on to the spark arrestor bolt? i am just confused i guess. i am an auto mechanic and this motor is not a whole lot like the chevy 4.3

Is there any way to completely drain the fuel tank? I want to have a fresh tank in there and do not want to pump it all out. thank you for all your help."

"The choke only uses the bi-metal coil that is heated by the elec. element inside of it. Does the choke feel very warm on the side? Yes? Then the elec. coil is working. The choke is adjustable by loosening the three screws on the side. Hold the choke in the closed position leaving it open with a drill bit (TIE A STRING TO THE BIT OR TAPE IT TO NOT DROP IT IN THE ENGINE) about 3/16" or a wooden kitchen match. DON'T DROP IT INTO THE INTAKE. Now turn the choke assy. until you feel a slight pressure on the lever--tighten the screws. It should be set close to the markings on the choke. If not, then the bimetal coil is worn out and the choke assy. needs to be replaced.

Water drops out at the bottom of the OD.

The PCVs are only plumbing to the side of the flame arrestor and not like a car valve. Engine vacuum draws in the bypass gases.

Siphon the tank into your worst neighbor's car. Just kidding. Siphon it manually with a hand pump into a spare fuel tank or two."

Suggest you ask a good carb man to take a look at your boat--and keep that girl friend!

the carbs are clean already pulled apart and cleaned and inspected. I think that its just a fuel problem. I just didnt feel like going through all the work of pumping all the fuel out of it.

That is where the water is coming from out of the od so i guess that is in good shape. Thanks for all your help."
 
does it seem logical to anyone

does it seem logical to anyone else that the boat would not want to idle due to poor combustion due to bad gas?

the gas in the tank is probably a few years old. but there was only about five gallons in the tank so i added five more of new with fuel stabilizer and octane booster. was just trying to avoid having to purge the tank and buy new gas. but i guess that i will.
 
Octane boosters will foul spar

Octane boosters will foul spark plugs with a red/orange carbon coating. The old fuel probably has water in it. Are you using a fuel/water separator filter? No? Add 2 bottles of water dispersant additive so it will not separate from the fuel and will burn.

"the quicksilver filter that is in the boat says it is a water separator filter. i might have fouled them out, but i think that i am just going to syphon the gas refill and hope for the best."
