Hello all, i have a 1997 40 horse mag 4cly 2 stroke tiller model#C40MA made by Mercury. it has a pull start only, its getting old trying to pull that thing all the time, so my question is can i add electric start? It has the mount for the starter, hope you guys can give me good news, cause they discontinued all the parts for for the recoil. Due to a horrible design, and i found that out. It broke once and had to rig it together. its good for now but i fear the future of the recoil.

any advise will be great

Yes, but you'll pay a lot for all the parts. I suggest locating a blown up one and stripping it.

Ok thank you, do i have to get the same year and model or will other models work too

Several years will work, but you need to check the parts by doing some detective work. To wit:

Find the year you have, look up all the part numbers (use this site) and jot them down. Then see what year the replacement motor is, and see if parts from THAT year are similar.
