I have a year 2000 rnli style motor, i'm looking for diagrams and service book on it but I can find the serial number but no model,
it says 40 msi under the s/n and the serial is opo70794 but nothing tells me the model,
It has had the primer bulb by the pull start removed and I would like to put it back on but have no idea where it goes to!
is the bulb removal common and does it cause issues if it's removed?
I hope someone can help,
does anyone know where I can get a manual online for free?
Thanks all

You will have alot better luck looking up part numbers here and then searching with those numbers on ebay. All parts searches need to be done with the serial number on mercury engines the model number will get you squat.

I personally had no idea what RNLI stood for but just found out it means Royal National Lifeboat Institution (UK).

I'm guessing some of the transom lengths may have been an odd size from the more standard 15 inch, 20 inch, 25 inch, etc... Possibly a 18? inch transom for the special design boats they run from what I kind of gathered from these guys that run RIB style boats, http://www.rib.net/forum/f36/ex-rnli-contract-motors-21539.html ...,

Either way, I was able to find some engine info using your serial number posted above. The Model number is coming up as an 704G2S3JB making it a MARINER 2000 year 40 HP (2 Cylinder) 2-Stroke) (M = Manual Start).

Here's two parts guides for it, http://www.marineengine.com/parts/mercury_marine_parts/sn/0P070794 and https://www.perfprotech.com/mercury-marine-parts-catalog/umodel/1821

For some primer bulb info/part numbers, look under Fuel Pump(Manual)(Design I) and/or Fuel Pump(Manual)(Design II) item number 18 in the above links.

For a service manual, you'll most likely only be able to find/buy a book somewhere as the chances may be on the low side that it's online somewhere for free..There might be a pay to download out there, but you may be better off searching the part number both online and through/on EBay in your area for the best deal even if the manual is in used condition. In the link above, look under Service/Support Material... Or search part number 90-826148R03 which = SERVICE MANUAL, 30/40 (2-Stroke) (#90-826148R03) Supersedes: 90-826148R 2
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...3.TR0.TRC0.H0.TRS0&_nkw=90-826148R03&_sacat=0

Hope this helps, good luck.
