Hey guys, sorry if this has been covered before but i just need some info on my 40hp Mariner its the (yamaha) 2 stroke motor it doesnt have elec start and i am looking to convert it to elec start, i have found another 40hp Mariner EL series but its a 1977 model and its the single carby version will the Starter and flywheel still bolt up to my dual carby model?

Also i was wondering on some models the only difference between HP is a carby change my dads Mercury 8hp can be fitted with the 15hp carby and thats all the difference between the two, is it the same with the 40hp mariner? if the 50hp carby will fit, any info on the motor would be great i looked mine up awhile ago and it was around the early 80s model thanx

Are you sure that the displacement of the 15 HP is the same as the 8 HP?------------Have you researched that in earnest ?

This was the information that a local boat shop said to us about the only difference with the two, i think i did look at the displacement and there the same, but i was just wondering if there is something simular with the 40hp mariner i have? do you have a answer to my first question mate?

Ok guys got it now, it looks like its all going to bolt up good, i am just abit worried about all the wiring, i will have a battery in the boat to run it and CD player off the battery aswell. just hope i can wire it all up good. how many people are on these forums? 3-4

the number of people vary according to time of day etc but for your info there has been 17 views on your question....do you have the solenoid and wiring harness and key etc to run that starter properly?

Thanx mate, Yeah i have a complete motor that i am taking all the parts off, and i have the switch board and wiring. so if anyone is interested in a Mariner 2stroke Motor or Single carby the coils cowling send me a msg.

If anyone has any Wiring diagrams i am trying to figure out the wiring for the 40hp mariner 77model to fit the 82 model i i am just abit stumped with the wiring from the magneto because i changed them over i am stumped about the wiring to the coils and the rectifier i think. I will take some pictures and upload them later

Figured out i cant really do it, The older 77model has Points on the top and the 82 model i have are a standard magneto so i cant get the cam out of the other one without pulling the whole lot down and swapping it.

I will be selling the pair one is a long shaft with electric start with controlls, the other is a short shaft with just manual controlls for the speed boat if people are interested contact me here or inbox me if possible thanx
